Felts go through a long process before they hit the shelves in each store. It's very interesting to see how they're made, and makes you appreciate the hats even more. Felts are either made of a wool felt or a fur felt. Wool felt is a fur from sheep but it is sheared. Fur felt is not sheared, the animal pelts are handled so the fur may be removed. In fur, the fibers are matted on a special machine which removes clotted fur, air and dirt. Beaver, the finest fur, and is usually used in the best hats.
